Gerald Hubbard became Pittsboro’s newest alderman Tuesday defeating Matthew Easley in a special election.
The final vote count was 13-8 in favor of Hubbard, who retired from Weyerhaeuser last year.
He succeeds Les Morgan who resigned from the board earlier this year after moving outside the town limits.
Hubbard’s addition to the board increases the unique family dynamic among Pittsboro’s leaders.
Hubbard’s wife Cindy also serves on the board. She has been an alderwoman in Pittsboro for 18 years and is currently vice-mayor for the town of 200 people.
Alderman Jimmy Franklin is Mayor Reda Bullard’s brother. The mayor’s brother-in-law Fred Bullard is also an alderman. Her husband Gayle Bullard is fire chief in the county seat.
Bullard is in her sixth term as mayor. She succeeded her father-in-law E.Q. Bullard, who served the town as mayor for 42 years.
Alderwoman Barbara Kellum is the other member of the town board. The board attorney is Ben Suber.
Hubbard will take office immediately finishing the remaining two years on Morgan’s term.
