Pittsboro man charged in Covington murder case

A Pittsboro man has been charged with murder and a Calhoun City woman accessory after the fact in the death of Billy Ray Covington.

Frankie Terrell Jones, 26, of Pittsboro, was charged today with the murder. Calhoun Sheriff Greg Pollan said Jones had been in the Calhoun County Jail for several days on two counts of felon in possession of a firearm.
Ashley Hobson, 24, of Calhoun City, was charged with accessory after the fact murder. Pollan said she also had been in jail for several days on multiple misdemeanor charges.

Bond has been set at $1 million for Jones and $250,000 for Hobson.

Covington was discovered dead of multiple gunshot wounds July 11. He was found on the side of CR 308 in the Gauley community by passer-bys around 10:30 a.m.

Pollan said Covington had gotten into a vehicle with Jones and Hobson. He said they began to argue in the vehicle which turned into a physical altercation at the site of the murder, and Jones pulled the gun on Covington and began to shoot.

Pollan said dozens of interviews with suspects and physical evidence led them to make the arrests.

The sheriff’s department was assisted by MBI, district attorney, Calhoun City, Bruce and Vardaman police departments.
