Chickenbone and Pittsboro VFD’s received Personal Protective Equipment from MS Forestry Commission recently as part of a National Fire Plan Program grant through USDA Forest Service. Pictured, from left, firemen Steve Whitten, Robert Sutherland, Chris Williams, Lynn Murphree, Connie Rogers and Forester Lee Eaton. The grant was awarded to 57 volunteer fire departments and outfitted 570 firefighters statewide. Each department received ten “ready kits”– lighter weight firefighting clothing for wildland firefighting.
