Calhoun County’s appeal of a grant denial seeking improved broadband access for county schools was granted last Friday by the FCC.
The school district’s request will be sent back to USAC for them to apply the waiver rules and they will have 90 days to issue a Funding Commitment Decision Letter.
This has been a yearlong process of seeking federal funding in order to update Calhoun County School District’s network infrastructure.
The district was previously approved for a $400,000 grant to upgrade switches and other equipment to make the schools capable of receiving the upgrades to the internet system.
School officials have longed lobbied for an improved system due to the impact of slow internet speeds on testing and classroom teaching.
