“We talked to a lot of good people about this job,” Mayor Rudy Pope said. “This was a hard decision to make.”

In other news, the board approved spending $5,000 for 10 trees approximately 20 feet high from Shade Tree Farm in Banner.

Mayor Pope said the plan is to put six on the square and put the other four at Oakwood Park and Bruce Park.

Mayor Pope said he would be getting an estimate for some repair work needed around Bruce Theater. He noted the Bruce Arts Council has raised more than $3,000 to take down the Cinema 22 signage on the front of the theater and install a canopy.

Mayor Pope informed the board the town has been asked to move a sewer line that crosses the lot where the new Calhoun Banking Center will soon be constructed on Hwy. 9. The board advised the mayor to explore all options.

The board hired Mike Campbell as a part time police officer.
