The Calhoun City Lady Wildcats, Vardaman Rams and Calhoun Academy Lady Cougars were the only weekend winners in basketball action around Calhoun County.
The Lady Wildcats defeated North Panola 67-43 Friday night to improve to 20-2 on the season. It was the 15th consecutive win for the Lady Wildcats.
Maya Armstrong led ‘City with 13 points. V Farmer added 12 and Alison Childs 10.
The Wildcats lost the boys’ game 68-55.
“We got in foul trouble in the fourth,” Coach Daren Coffey said. “We have to get more consistent as a team for four quarters.”
The Vardaman Rams defeated Hatley 54-52 Friday night. Ta Buchanan led Vardaman with 19 points. The win snapped a seven game losing skid for the Rams.
The Lady Rams were defeated 71-70 in overtime. Tiara Jones scored 30 for Vardaman. Shylsses Rimmer added 16 and Niesha Willis 12. It was only the second lost in the last nine games for the Lady Rams.
The Lady Cougars from Calhoun Academy defeated Kemper in the consolation game of the district tournament at Pittsboro. They will advance to the North Tournament Tuesday at Benton Academy as a three seed. They play Sharkey at 5:15 p.m.
The Cougars lost their consolation game with Hebron. They will be a fourth seed at the North Half Tourney against host Benton at 6:30 p.m.
Both Bruce teams were beaten Friday night. The Lady Trojans remained winless on the season and the Trojans dropped a close 80-79 game at H.W. Byers.
