Vara McCormick Hannaford Nabors, 89, of Pittsboro, died February 6, 2014 at her son’s residence in Monroe, NC. She was born August 30, 1923 in Calhoun County, the daughter of Mitchell L. McCormick and Mannie Logan McCormick. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where she served on the cemetery board. She was a devoted homemaker and friend to many. She graduated from Bruce High School and later taught school. She retired from Kellwood Company after 33 years of service. Her funeral service is today, Monday at 11 a.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with Rev. ?Robert Earl Alexander officiating and Bro. Benny Hill assisting. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Hannaford, Tom Hannaford, David McCormick, Jeff McCormick, Caden tunnell, Nick Tunnell, Jerry Wright and Shelby Wright. Survivors include her son, Terry Hannaford, Monroe, NC; sister-in-law, Jimmie D. McCormick, Houlka, and a brother-in-law, Cecil Hannaford, Atlanta, Ga., and a host of nieces and nephews.
