The hope of gathering the larger Calhoun County community in a shared Thanksgiving Worship Service was realized Sunday evening, Nov. 16, when approximately 60 county residents joined together in prayer and praise at the Multi-Purpose building in Pittsboro.
Sponsored by Calhoun County Churches United, the service engaged Porter’s Chapel Choir and musicians, Bro. Willie Lairy, Rev. Allen Dearing and John Diamond of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church, Bro. John Warren of Grace Fellowship, and members of the Catholic Community of Calhoun County.
The message of the evening given by Bro. Warren created awareness of the simple ways we are thankful and the importance of having gratitude as a way of living. “Scholars make us aware that being grateful keeps us healthier in mind-body-spirit and heart. That is a fact.”
An invitation to bring food items to the service as an offering was expanded to invite participants to make a monetary donation which would go to the Food Pantry located in Bruce.
This partnership with the Food Pantry makes real the Scripture: “What you receive as gift, give as gift.”
Donations that evening totaled $700 and will be given to the Food Pantry for December food distribution. The need for food assistance in Calhoun County is significant. Donations can be made at Excel through Dec. 5.
