The freezing and wet weather has brought the near $1 million sewer project to a halt, but Bruce Mayor Rudy Pope is optimistic it will soon get back on track.

The project, which was bid at just under $1 million, involves running a large line from the intersection of Railroad and Cook Streets to the town lagoon in west Bruce. A large pumping station will be installed at the intersection as well.

There are then dozens of individual “point repairs” to the system to help prevent the overload of runoff water flooding the system.
“We have some places that will require a major repair that will involve digging up the entire street,” Mayor Pope said. “Once it’s complete, this project should be a big help to the sewer problems we’ve suffered with in South Bruce for a long time.”

The town has already received some forgiveness on the project, now only responsible for just over $600,000. Mayor Pope said he is also seeking additional grants to try and run a sewer line to connect with Bruce Community Living Center.

The city-owned facility currently has it’s own treatment facility that will soon need replacing.
“We’ll have to do something,” Mayor Pope said. “We would prefer to get it connected to our system, but getting the line across the river will be the biggest obstacle.”
