A Calhoun City man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a home invasion early Monday morning in which a female resident was shot multiple times.
Quentin Conner, 21, was arrested this afternoon in the case and another arrest is expected, Calhoun City Asst. Chief Tito Lopez said. The incident occurred at 307 North Main Extended around 1 a.m. this morning.
The victim, Miriam Williams, 22, had surgery this morning at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo and Lopez said she was in serious but stable condition. She was airlifted from the scene this morning.
Lopez said the preliminary investigation suggested a break-in that resulted in numerous shots fired. Williams was shot with what appeared to be a .22 caliber, but other shell casings were collected at the scene.
Her boyfriend, 28-year-old Antonio Coleman, was in the house at the time of the alleged break-in, Lopez said.
Coleman was not injured. He was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and felon in possession of a firearm.
"This was not a random act," Lopez said. "Everyone involved in this incident knew each other."
The Calhoun County Sheriff's office is assisting in the investigation which is ongoing.
